A two-week workshop for
maverick theatre makers

7-19 October 2018

at Toynbee Studios
28 Commercial Street, London, E1 6AB

Join our core ensemble for two weeks of creative exploration and inspiration. Create your own work, make international connections, and take control of your artistic practice.

Train with guest artists at the forefront of devised theatre, sharing their wealth of experience in creating bold, original performance. The core group of theatre makers in the two-week Intensive will be joined by a handful of new participants attending only the Masterclass Series, creating an extended network of artists trained in these techniques. Booking for individual masterclasses is now open.
Share your favourite devising techniques, and add new ones to your creative toolbox. Practice exchange allows you to learn from your peers and gain confidence in teaching others about the tools you use in your work.
Create new performance every day, putting into practice the new techniques you'll learn from our guest artists and your peers in the Intensive. The workshop runs in Open Space, designed to let you explore new ideas and impulses. Follow where your passion and curiosity lead you, without the pressure of a public performance. Learn more about Open Space on our FAQs page.

Laura Lundy, executive producer of Blue Panther Productions (USA) will offer mentoring throughout the Intensive, as well as a group coaching session, 'Define and Articulate Your Creative Work, on Your Terms'. We've all had that moment when we're asked what we're working on, and our mind goes blank. Learn how to speak clearly and authentically about your work in a way that invites supporters to join you.

See three professional productions by devised theatre companies in London, and discuss the performances with your fellow theatre makers in the workshop. Build on these shared points of reference as you continue to create your own work together throughout the Intensive.
Celebrate the last day of the Intensive by raising a class at our Happy Hour. This event gives theatre makers a rare opportunity to discuss new projects and fully realised work with London artistic directors and other industry decision-makers. Details & RSVP on the Facebook event here.

Our guest artistsOliver Smart, Kat Joyce, and Stella Duffy will teach masterclasses on their favourite devising techniques: puppetry, physical theatre, and improvisation. This year, the masterclass series offers more time with our guest artists in three full-day workshops.
We want to make it as easy as possible to apply. You can choose to fill in the application form in writing, or make a video recording answering the same questions, or schedule a phone call with us.

We welcome applications from theatre makers in any discipline: directors, writers, performers, choreographers, composers, designers... and those maverick multi-potentialites who don’t like to be pinned down into any one category.

The London Devised Theatre Intensive is a full-time programme, starting on Sunday evening with our welcome event, in the studio Monday to Friday for two weeks, and attending three evening theatre performances. Working intensely on your creative practice is, well, intense, and we recommend that you do not plan to be available for any other work during these two weeks.
‘London Devised Theatre Intensive… We can put INTENSIVE in capital letters, I think.’

I came out of the LDTI skilled up and equipped to take the next step as a theatre maker instigating my own work.
